Kirkpatrick Prize for Young Book Collectors

Kirkpatrick Prize for Young Book Collectors

I love programs that get young people interested in collecting books. Some clever folks are hosting fun events these days, like the Honey & Wax Book Collecting Prize aimed at getting young women collecting.

I am highlighting one that is taking applications right now. The Taylor C. Kirkpatrick Prize for Young Book Collectors is for book collectors under the age of 30 and live in Colorado. The winner gets $1,000. That would go a long way inhelping a young person grow their collection.

The Kilpatrick Prize (sponsored by the University of Denver) is only 5-years-old, but just like the Honey & Wax Book Collecting Prize it has highlighted some fascinating collectors and shelves. That's one really fun aspect of these young collectors - it's their niches and categories and areas of interest that make it all so valuable. The creativity and effort is fun to read about. Last year's winner focused on books about food and the connections they create.

All of this gives me hope for the future. Everyone wins when people are buying and caring for books. Everyone.
