We need a month dedicated to the creation, cultivation, and love of libraries in our homes. Let's find time to create our own safe spaces surrounded by the books we love. Just need to find a month to do this...

I am proposing May. Every May. What do you think?

Here is my thinking...

April is all about public libraries with: National School Librarian Day, National Library Week (Second full week of April), National Library Workers Day, National Bookmobile Day, and National Librarian Day. Plus, it ends with Indie Bookstore Day on the last Saturday of April.

May kicks off with Free Comic Book Day and is National Get Caught Reading Month, May 23rd is International Day of the Book, as well as National Family Reading Month. Family Reading time? Doesn't that sound like a great way to frame up and help promote books in the home? The more I think about each May being National Home Library Month, the more I like it.

I'm starting a page for where plans can be made:

Share photos of your home library (or weekly photo challenge?)
List out specific news pieces about the benefits of a home library
Maybe plan 4 weeks of blog topics to be discussed.

That page will be "home base" for the home library planning and discussion, so please login and chime in! I'll update it there like a poor man's wiki.
